{"id":1794,"date":"2008-12-02T20:07:18","date_gmt":"2008-12-02T19:07:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cognitionandculture.local\/?p=1794"},"modified":"2024-02-24T10:33:57","modified_gmt":"2024-02-24T09:33:57","slug":"heated-debate-on-cognition-and-religion-in-the-guardian","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cognitionandculture.local\/blogs\/icci-blog\/heated-debate-on-cognition-and-religion-in-the-guardian\/","title":{"rendered":"Heated debate on cognition and religion in the Guardian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you like it hot, there has just been a heated exchange at the Guardian webpage, started by <a href=\"http:\/\/cognitionandculture.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/Andrew-Brown-_-The-Guardian.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Brown reporting<\/a> in his blog on a talk by Justin Barrett (whom we are proud to have as a member of this Institute) on the evolved cognitive basis of religion and agreeing with him that &#8220;the idea of an omniscient god is one that makes intuitive sense to children.&#8221; To this, the philosopher <a href=\"http:\/\/cognitionandculture.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/AC-Grayling-_-The-Guardian.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A.C.Grayling retorts<\/a> that one shouldn&#8217;t be surprised that such pro-religion views should come out of research\u00a0 partly funded by the Templeton Foundation. <a href=\"http:\/\/cognitionandculture.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/Justin-L-Barrett-_-The-Guardian.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justin Barrett objects<\/a> to the ad hominem attack and points out that Pascal Boyer and Scott Atran (other members of our Institute, known to be atheists) hold similar views. Plus hundreds of comments.
